Efficacy and Safety of Topical Sarsaparilla officinalis Q in the Management of Heel Fissures: A Descriptive Case Series

Abstract

Background: Heel fissures represent  a frequent dermatological complaint  characterised by hyperkeratosis,  pain, and compromised barrier  function. Standard topical  interventions frequently face  limitations regarding long-term  recurrence. Homoeopathic mother  tinctures, such as Sarsaparilla  officinalis Q, contain bioactive  compounds that promote epithelial  repair and attenuate inflammation. 

Objective: To assess the therapeutic  efficacy, clinical safety, and patient  compliance of topically applied  Sarsaparilla officinalis Q in patients  with heel fissures. 

Methods: A descriptive  observational case series was  conducted involving 30 patients  presenting with heel fissures across  primary care and outpatient settings.  Sarsaparilla officinalis Q was applied  locally twice daily for a minimum of  3 months. Subjective and objective  clinical parameters—including pain,  pruritus, burning sensation, fissure  depth, and re-epithelialization— were monitored during serial follow up visits. 

Results: Topical application led  to marked symptomatic relief  across all age groups. Significant  reductions in pain, itching, and  burning sensations were observed,  alongside progressive fissure closure  and skin regeneration. No significant  adverse reactions or secondary skin  sensitivities were reported. 

Conclusion: Topical Sarsaparilla  officinalis Q demonstrates high  clinical utility as a safe, cost effective, and well-tolerated  adjunctive treatment for heel  fissures. Controlled clinical trials  are warranted to validate these  preliminary findings.
