Abstract

Sleep disorders are a group of  conditions that disturb the normal  sleep patterns. The term “sleep  disorder” combines two words:  “sleep,” derived from the old  English noun “slǣp”, meaning “to  sleep or fall asleep,” and “disorder,”  derived from Latin and French  roots suggesting a lack of order  or arrangement. Inadequate sleep  interferes with the normal physical,  mental, social and emotional well being of an individual. Some of the  contributing factors linked to Sleep  disorders include medical conditions  like heart disease, Asthma, mental  health conditions including  depression and anxiety, genetic  factors, side effect of a medication  or substance abuse to name a few.
