Adoption of Fertilizer Use Practices Among Farmers in Telangana

The present study was conducted in Telangana. A descriptive research design was adopted. Six major field crops were purposively selected. A total of 360 farmers were selected through multistage random sampling. Data were collected using a structured interview schedule covering ten fertilizer use practice domains and analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Kruskal–Wallis test. The results revealed that 28.89 per cent of the farmers had low adoption of fertilizer use practices, followed by medium (23.61%), very low (17.50%), high (17.50%) and very high (12.50%) adoption levels. Adoption was relatively higher for recommended application of major fertilizers. whereas lower adoption was observed for manure application, specialty fertilizer use, nutrient deficiency management and safe fertilizer transport, storage, handling and disposal practices. Significant differences in adoption were observed among the six farmer groups. The study indicates the need for crop-specific extension interventions to promote balanced fertilizer use and improve the adoption of recommended fertilizer use practices for sustainable agricultural production in Telangana.
