Abstract

The swift development of artificial intelligence has led to its use beyond automation into human creativity domains. The development of generative artificial intelligence has fueled debates within the academic sphere about its use in the creativity process and its effects on human creativity. It is against this backdrop that the present paper uses the narrative literature review method in synthesizing existing knowledge on the relationship between artificial intelligence and human creativity. Based on fifty empirical, conceptual, and review articles published between 2015 and 2025, the theme was synthesized by systematically assessing the literature. Based on the literature review, it is revealed that artificial intelligence does not possess the aspect of creativity, in the sense that it lacks intention, consciousness, and evaluation. Nevertheless, there are findings to show that artificial intelligence can supplement the efficiency of creativity, productivity, and idea- generation capabilities when paired with artificial intelligence. On the basis of evidence, it can be revealed that the most effective results are achieved when artificial intelligence pairs up with humans, under the condition that evaluation and decision- making are in the hands of humans. The empirical results suggest that the most fruitful creative outcomes for the collaboration between humans and artificial intelligence can be experienced provided the evaluation and decision-making processes are controlled by humans.
