Comparative efficacy of bio-pesticides and synthetic insecticides against wheat aphids under field conditions

A field experiment was conducted during the rabi season of 2022 at the Agricultural Research Farm of Baba Raghav Das Post Graduate College, Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, to evaluate the comparative efficacy of bio-pesticides and synthetic insecticides against wheat aphids. The experiment was laid out in a randomized block design with eight treatments, including control, and replicated thrice. Observations on aphid population were recorded one day before spray and at 3, 7 and 10 days after application. The results revealed that all treatments significantly reduced aphid population compared to control. Among the treatments, Imidacloprid 70% WG @ 0.25 g/l proved most effective, recording the lowest aphid population at 3, 7 and 10 days after spray in both applications. It was followed by Acetamiprid 20% SP and Lambda-cyhalothrin 5% EC, which were also found effective. Botanical treatments, viz., Neem oil 2% and Neem Baan 0.03%, exhibited comparatively lower efficacy but performed better than control. The study clearly indicated that synthetic insecticides were more effective than bio-pesticides in managing wheat aphids under field conditions.
