Abstract

A sustainable seed system ensures timely, affordable access to high-quality seeds for farmers, which is vital for food security.  Such a system functions effectively only when easy access to good-quality seed that matches their diverse needs, especially during the sowing period. To strengthen seed production and distribution, the Government of India, Department of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare has created a digital platform called SATHI (Seed Authentication, Traceability and Holistic Inventory). This platform tracks every stage of seed multiplication from nucleus seed production to subsequent generations up to the supply of certified seed to farmers through registered dealers. SATHI offers a unified digital ecosystem for all stakeholders, including seed growers, processors, certification agencies, and input dealers, to improve seed quality. Its modules streamline processes such as grower registration, field inspections, lab testing, reporting, and certification, saving significant time.
