Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate haematological and biochemical changes with silver fluorophosphate supplementation in the repair of long bone fractures in dogs. In Group I (six dog), long bone fractures were immobilized using a locking compression plate (LCP), while in Group II (six dog) long bone fractures were immobilized using LCP along with additional use of silver fluorophosphate granules. The animals were fasted for 12 h, with water withheld for 6 h before surgery for anaesthesia. Routine antibiotics and analgesics were administered and owners were instructed on wound care and limited movement for minimum 20 days. Results of haemato-biochemical evaluation carried out between two groups at fortnightly intervals showed non-significant (p>0.05) differences in all the parameters between the two groups and between periods within the group, except packed cell volume, serum calcium and alkaline phosphatase levels, which while differed significantly (p
