Synopsis

Since the report on the isolation of Blastomyces dermatitidis from the lungs of  an insectivorous bat (Rhinopoma hardwickei) trapped in Delhi (Khan et al., 1982)  and the demonstration of characteristic single buckling cells of Blastomyces in  lung sections of an aged male pariah dog stained with methanamine silver  (Iyer, 1983), India cannot be considered free from the existence of Blastomyces  dermatitidis. Recently, B. dermatitidis has been isolated from 6 out of 60 tufted  pockhard Aythya fuligata a migratory bird (Rawal, 1988).
