Climate change is reshaping the physical conditions under which the world's food is grown. Rising temperatures, shifting rainfall patterns, elevated atmospheric CO2, and a growing frequency of droughts, floods, and heatwaves are together altering the productivity of staple crops across every inhabited continent. This review synthesizes current evidence on how climate change affects yields of the world's dominant cereal and food crops, examines the physiological mechanisms driving these changes, and compares vulnerability across major agricultural regions. It closes with a discussion of adaptation strategies and the policy gaps that remain.
